Body recovered from River Trent

A body has been recovered from a Nottinghamshire river, a police spokesman said.

Officers were called to Besthorpe Jetty on the River Trent in Newark, on Tuesday morning, after reports of an object in the water.

A body, believed to be that of a man, was found but is not clear how long it had been in the water.

No formal identification has been made but officers said they were following a number of lines of inquiry.

A post mortem examination on the body is due to take place later.
