Parents shown round kidney unit

Parents of children with chronic kidney disease have been shown around a new £378,000 treatment centre at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

The new haemodialysis unit has been funded by the British Kidney Patient Association and will offer beds for 10 children undergoing treatment.

As well as four en-suite rooms, the unit has an area for nursing transplant patients on the ward.

The unit will open in June as part of the new Nottingham Children's Hospital.

Shelley Jepson, senior nurse in paediatric nephrology at Nottingham University Hospitals, said: "This is an opportunity for parents to meet and talk to other families with children with similar medical problems.

"It also gives us a chance to talk to families about treatment options and provide information about current research and support systems."
