Former York owner bids for Stags

The former owner of York City, John Batchelor, has launched a bid to buy Mansfield Town Football Club.

Mr Batchelor has submitted a bid to majority shareholder Keith Haslam.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham that he would make a significant investment and introduce substantial changes to turn around the fortunes of the Stags.

A consortium led by club chairman James Derry is also bidding to buy the club which is currently second from bottom of the football league.

Mr Batchelor was initially part of the consortium before deciding to bid for the struggling League Two club on his own.

The Stags are to play Notts County in a crucial local derby at Field Mill on Saturday.
