A 94-year-old woman's family have said they are appalled at the conditions she is living in after council workmen began improvements to her flat.

Dorothy Farnsworth from Ollerton, Nottinghamshire , has been without a kitchen or bathroom for almost a week.

"I feel terrible. It's made me very ill," she said.

Newark and Sherwood Homes said it would investigate Mrs Farnsworth's case and try to resolve any problems she had as soon as possible.

Mrs Farnsworth's granddaughter Michelle Hall said the family was upset and angry.

"It's never nice to see anybody living in such a mess.

"Dad came to pick her up on Mother's Day and ended up taking her back to live with him for the rest of the refurbishment."

A Newark and Sherwood Homes spokesman said Mrs Farnsworth's improvements were part of a £50m upgrade of council houses and any vulnerable tenants should have been identified.
