Boy racer problem is 'cut by 90%'

No more than four cars are allowed to gather
The problem of so-called boy racers in Nottinghamshire has been cut by up to 90%, the police have said.

It follows action taken after complaints about noisy and dangerous driving from groups of 600 vehicles.

A county-wide dispersal order preventing five or more vehicles from "congregating, driving in convoy, or racing" was imposed last June.

Police arrested 86 people for breaking the order, and officers are now passing on advice to other forces.

Sgt Dean Greaves said the difference was obvious when he patrolled the A608 over the weekend.

"The numbers that we used to get we are not getting any more.

"We probably get 40, maybe 45 cars on a Sunday night now so we have reduced the problem by about 90% which is a big success.

"We are still getting some complaints about the noise but we ask the public to bear with us, the problem has not gone away but we are working towards solving it for you."
