Cancer research gets £7.5m boost
More than £7.5m has been given to scientists in Nottingham to advance research into cancer.

Nottingham Trent University said it would spend £3m on creating a dedicated research centre on its Clifton campus.

The rest, spread over five years, will be used to expand the university's research staff from 13 to 25 and to support cancer diagnosis research.

The money has come from the Lincolnshire-based John and Lucille van Geest Foundation.

University authorities said the grant would ensure it stayed at the forefront of cancer research.

Professor Robert Rees, who is leading the research team, said: "It is a very exciting development where we have the opportunity to build on our research activity, and expand our research programme to advance knowledge in cancer treatments.

"This award will make a significant contribution to cancer research in Nottingham and we are very grateful for the support that the van Geest Foundation has shown in these endeavours."
