Residents on alert for flooding
Newark cricket ground flooded
Incidents of flooding have been limited, officials have said
Flood warnings are still in place along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire as more rain is forecast for the weekend.

There are several warnings around the Newark area which saw a small amount of flooding on Friday.

More than 1,500 sandbags have been handed out in Lowdham and Girton, two of the villages hardest hit in the summer floods,

The Environment Agency assured residents that it is monitoring the situation closely.

John Sandilands, from the Agency, said it was important for people to be ready.

"Anything falling from the sky is almost going straight into the rivers, so we are getting an immediate response.

"Hence the reason we are trying to make people aware of what is going on, so hopefully when flooding occurs they won't get shocked."

Police have urged residents, particularly children, to avoid wading through flooded areas as the water may be contaminated.

More rain is forecast for the weekend with the heaviest showers expected on Sunday.
