'Unsafe' taxis taken off the road
Almost a third of taxis stopped in spot-checks in a Nottinghamshire town were taken off the road due to concerns over safety.

Thirteen vehicles in Worksop were examined - 11 were private hire taxis and two were Hackney carriages.

Four of the private hire vehicles were taken off the road with what examiners called "a number of major faults".

Officials from Bassetlaw District Council said the results of the checks were very disappointing.

The spot-check was co-ordinated by the council's licensing enforcement officer with the authority's vehicle inspectors and Newark Police.
