Pet limit deal gets the brush off
A dispute over pets in Nottingham council homes could continue after some residents rejected a compromise offered by the housing company.

Complaints from some tenants had prompted City Homes to propose a limit of one large pet per household - but that has been increased to two.

But some pet owners have said they still feel they are being discriminated against and will fight the move.

A final decision by City Homes is due later in the week.

Animals exempt

Nottingham City Homes is the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) which handles the city's 29,000 council houses.

A spokesman said the limit would be a starting point and each case would be judged on its merits.

Margaret Coward from City Homes said: "The restriction is for two dogs or cats to be kept without permission.

"If people wish to have more dogs and cats we will look at every request individually".

Smaller caged animals and fish would not be affected by the plans, she said.

Consultation doubts

But tenant Michelle Morgan was still not happy.

"It is still discriminatory against council tenants," she said.

"Why should they only have two pets when the person next door who owns there own house can have as many as they like?

"If I didn't have a positive outlook, if I was just going to roll over and let the council do as it pleased, then what is the point of the consultation?"
