Fresh search for missing suspect
James Brodie
James Brodie is widely believed to have been killed after the shooting
A new search has begun for clues to the whereabouts of the suspected killer of the Nottingham jeweller Marian Bates.

A £10,000 reward is on offer for information leading to James Brodie - whether he is dead or alive.

Mr Brodie has been missing since Mrs Bates was shot in September 2003 during a bungled raid at her shop in Arnold.

Police said they had identified a number of locations in the Nottingham area and the search of a flat in Springhead Court, Bulwell, had begun.

It is thought Brodie stayed in the flat immediately after the murder.

Officers emphasised the current tenant was unconnected with the current inquiry.

Family plea

Mrs Bates's widower, Victor, said he was hopeful the new investigation would achieve useful results.

"I am a little disappointed that it has taken four years to think of having an intensive search for him," he said.

"But on the other hand things are not being left to lie which is very encouraging and I am hopeful something will come out of it - but to be honest I am not holding my breath."

Mr Brodie's younger brother Stephen has also called for anyone with information to come forward.
