Youth stabbed after 'play fight'
Jason Spencer
Jason Spencer died near his home in Sherwood
A man who witnessed the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old Nottingham boy has told a court the incident was a play fight that got out of hand.

The trial at Nottingham Crown Court has been told Jason Spencer was stabbed eight times in Tithby Drive, Sherwood, on 6 March.

Rueben Valentine, 17, of Oxton Avenue, Sherwood, pleads not guilty to murder.

Witness Jason O'Kine, who was a friend of both teenagers, said he had been traumatised by the incident.

Eight-inch knife

Mr O'Kine, who gave evidence via a live video link, said all he could remember of the incident was that it was a play fight which got out of hand and said it was not his choice to come to court.

The trial heard previously that the defendant became angry when his jacket was torn and demanded 60 to replace it.

The jury was then told that when Mr Spencer offered to sew it up, Mr Valentine punched him in the face and was hit back.

It was alleged that Mr Valentine used an eight-inch knife to stab his victim repeatedly in the face, arm and chest.

The trial continues.
