A man has been found guilty of murdering his daughter's boyfriend because he was jealous of his ambition.
Nottingham Crown Court heard Paul West, 50, lived above his daughter, Sheena Bishop, in flats on Waterdown Road in the Clifton area of the city.
He became angry that she needed him less as Rodney Wells worked hard to improve their lives, the jury was told.
West stabbed Mr Wells last September after a fight broke out. The judge said he should serve at least 13 years.
West is said to have hated Mr Wells because he feared the 27-year-old bus driver could provide his daughter with an education and a new home.
The court heard that unemployed West had gone armed with a knife after either challenging, or accepting a challenge from, Mr Wells to a fight.
Mr Wells died from a single stab wound to the chest after a confrontation in an alley near to West's flat.
