Major repairs have begun at Nottingham's new £7m Market Square.
The feature should be repaired in time for the school holidays
The square was officially opened in April by Princess Anne but part of the water feature is leaking and needs to be fixed.
The leak was found behind the stone cladding on the reflective pool and work started on Monday.
An area of the water feature will be cordoned off while granite slabs from the top of the pool are removed and waterproofing carried out.
It is hoped the work will be completed by the beginning of the school holidays on 23 July.
A spokesman for Nottingham City Council said: "Obviously we're disappointed that the public has been unable to enjoy the reflective pool recently.
"After careful consideration we have found a solution which will solve the problem permanently and ensure that the water feature continues to give pleasure to future generations."
