A fire has destroyed a large part of a restaurant in the centre of Nottingham.

A total of 50 firefighters were tackling the blaze at the Mandarin Restaurant in Lower Parliament Street which took hold on Friday evening.

Police said there were people in the building at the time but they all escaped without any injuries.

A fire service spokesman said the blaze began on the ground floor but quickly spread to all three levels of the building. The cause is not known.
