Wheelie bin fines for residents
A city council has started fining residents for leaving their wheelie bins on the street after the rubbish has been collected.

Some residents in Nottingham have been issued with £100 fixed penalty notices for failing to put their bins away.

Councillor Brian Grocock said 27 legal notices had been served on residents in Sneinton. Six failed to co-operate and were issued with the fines.

He said the rule did not apply to those who had practical problems with bins.

'An eyesore'

"We are disappointed that we have had to take this action but we are determined that we are going to improve the quality and appearance of neighbourhoods across the city," said Cllr Grocock.

"Not only do wheelie bins left on streets create an eyesore... they can present a danger to pedestrians.

"Particularly vulnerable are those with impaired vision or disabilities and parents with children in pushchairs."

If penalty fines are not paid within 14 days, residents will be summoned to appear in court where they could be fined up to £5,000.
