Package exploded in town centre

A bomb squad has carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package in the centre of Mansfield.

Traffic was banned from three streets in the centre of the town for several hours during the operation on Tuesday.

The package was found by a member of staff in the reception of Mansfield Building Society on Regent Street.

The bomb squad told the BBC that the package was probably left at the location "maliciously". Police said no warning was received about it.

Police sealed off the building society as well as Leeming and Clumber streets during the operation.
