Jury out in shot policewoman case
Rachael Bown
Rachael Bown was shot in the stomach
The jury hearing the trial of a man who is accused of the attempted murder a trainee policewoman has retired to consider its verdict.

Trevon Thomas of Bilborough denies attempting to murder Pc Rachael Bown in the Lenton area of Nottingham on 14 February 2006.

The prosecution claims Mr Thomas shot Pc Bown deliberately.

Mr Thomas said he was blinded by CS spray fired at him by another officer and his gun went off accidentally.

Pc Bown suffered life-threatening injuries when she was shot below her body armour. She has not worked since.

Mr Thomas, who came to the UK from Trinidad in 2000, told Nottingham Crown Court he was carrying a Browning 9mm pistol, loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, for "protection".

He said the safety catch "accidentally" came off the gun and he inadvertently pulled the trigger after Pc Martin Foster fired CS spray at him.
