Motorbikes crushed in crackdown
Motorbikes to be crushed
Police say 15 bikes have not been claimed and will be crushed
More than a dozen mini-motorbikes and go-peds are to be crushed after a crackdown by Nottinghamshire Police.

Police in the Gedling area seized 20 motorised bikes in the past two weeks after they were used illegally on roads and public land.

Fifteen of the 20 items seized have not been reclaimed and will be handed over to be crushed.

A police spokesman said better education was needed to stop people using their bikes illegally.

Peter Ainley, crime reduction manager from Nottinghamshire police, said: "People purchase the bikes in good faith, probably from the internet without realising they cannot be used on the road or other land - other than private land - with permission.

"Then they've just thrown away £250 or £300 and no doubt the child whose machine it was is even more upset.

"If you haven't got anywhere to use it legally, don't buy it."
