Sexual disease advice for parents

A campaign to raise awareness of sexually-transmitted diseases has started in two Nottinghamshire towns.

It is targeting young people and parents, with NHS staff and health advisers talking to shoppers in Mansfield and Ashfield.

NHS and health-related staff will be on hand to talk to members of the public who may have any queries.

The scheme targets people aged between 16 and 24 as well as parents, carers, teachers and youth workers.

Organised by Ashfield and Mansfield Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), it aims to support National Sexual Health Week, which runs between 7 - 13 August.

Local public health manager Helene Denness said: "What we're finding is we've got parents with younger children who are out and want to say to us, 'I really want to be having that conversation with them about sex and relationships before they become sexually active - how am I to do that?'

"And we can signpost them to some of the information we've got on the table."
