Plans to widen one of Nottinghamshire's most congested roads have moved a step closer.
A £90m contract for improvements to the A453 between Clifton and the M1 has been awarded by the Highways Agency.
Construction firm Laing O'Rourke has been given the contract to dual the road carriageway between junction 24 of the motorway and the Crusader Island.
Work could start within two years, and the Highways Agency hopes to open the road to traffic by 2011.
The section through Clifton will also be widened to four lanes to ease rush hour congestion.
