Call for quick tram plan decision
Delays in deciding the future of Nottingham's planned tram lines are causing frustration and extra costs, officials have warned.

Transport Secretary Alistair Darling has said ministers were waiting for more information from developers before committing to the £300m project.

The government said it wanted to a "speedy decision" in March 2004.

But the city council has said both supporters and detractors have been left in limbo by the delays.

Decision 'soon'

Pat Armstrong, the city council's head of transport projects, said: "It would be helpful to the people who have concerns over the project and want some certainty.

"And it would obviously be of importance to those who want to see the benefits.

"Also delay is costing money - the inevitable fact is that the costs go up the longer it is delayed."

Mr Darling said he wanted to be able to make a decision "soon".
