Mother involved in anti-gun song

A Nottinghamshire woman who has lost her son to gun crime is joining forces with other victims to record a song.

Janice Collins, whose son Brendon Lawrence was shot dead in the street in St Ann's in 2002, is featured on the new CD called Why?

The CD has been organised by campaigners, including Mothers Against Guns and the music firm Urban Concepts.

Profits from the song released in June will be used to help victims of crime across the UK.

It's very true what the girls are singing, we - the victims - need to know why our loved ones have been shot

One idea is to fund a holiday home for families affected.

Ms Collins said: "I think they're going to look for some sort of holiday home to help the victims of gun crime to just get away for a few days and rest.

"It's very true what the girls are singing, we - the victims - need to know why our loved ones have been shot.

"We need questions answered and those questions haven't been answered for a lot of families - it just goes on and on."

Police are still looking for her son Brendon's killers after a three-year investigation.

Ms Collins hopes it will send a message to young people that their mothers should not become the next voices to feature on the CD.

Two other songs are being released by Urban Concepts as part of the Don't Trigger Campaign.
