Two schoolboys have been arrested after a ball-bearing gun was fired towards a teacher and hit a child in a classroom.
The incident is believed to have happened when two boys walked into a class at Magnus Comprehensive School in Newark, Notts, on Wednesday afternoon.
The school said the child who was struck was not injured.
Police arrested two pupils, aged 13 and 14, close to the school. They were questioned and bailed to return to Newark Police station on 5 May.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council said: "It appears that the gun was aimed at a teacher but the shot hit another pupil who, fortunately, was unhurt.
"Such incidents are taken very seriously.
"No weapons of any kind are allowed on school premises and if they are found action will be taken immediately."
