Water taxis are part of an ambitious plan to revitalise a stretch of the River Trent.
Residents in The Meadows are being asked for their opinions on the proposals for The Embankment.
City council officials are applying for a grant from the Living Landmark's Fund, a National Lottery scheme.
As well as the taxis between the Trent and Wilford Bridges, the proposals also include a new sports pavilion and visitor centre.
Community participation
Richard Wood, planning officer said: "We've got some very exciting plans for the Embankment area and for The Meadows community.
"These sustainable ways of transport can link into the new tram system we're hoping to extend down through The Meadows in the years to come.
"There are sport facilities down there, there are also changing facilities and we do have festivals and events but I think we all recognise we can do a lot more with that space."
The council is now completing a bid which will be submitted at the end of January.
But residents' comments are needed in order to compile the proposal, with displays on show at the One Stop Shop in the Bridgeway Centre.
"They're really looking at whether or not we can actually transform a community and I think that's where we can really benefit because we have got The Meadows community behind us," said Mr Wood.
"The Meadows is an area that would benefit from some investment and we can show from the work we've done with the community over the last year on new ideas for The Meadows that we've got them behind us."
