Woman escapes from kitchen fire

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after a fire destroyed the kitchen of her home in a sheltered housing complex in Nottingham.

Wardens at the complex on Ambergate Road in Beechdale rushed to the aid of the woman when the fire alarm went off on Saturday night.

They found the resident, who is in her 70s, escaping from the building.

She was suffering breathing difficulties after inhaling smoke in the fire which broke out at about 6pm.
