Major road project to open early
Traffic jam
MARR could clear 5,000 cars each day from residential roads
Part of a major road is opening in Nottinghamshire this seek - six months ahead of schedule.

The £30m Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR) is planned to bring up to 10,000 jobs to the area.

The section opening on Tuesday is just over a mile long from Pleasley to Beck Lane, near Kingsmill Hospital.

The eastern section is expected to open before the end of December and will complete the six mile route, that was due to open in spring 2005.

Officials say the new road should make other streets safer by diverting up to 5,000 vehicles daily off other roads.

It aims to improve links between the M1 and A1 and includes three new bridges and five major junctions.

Construction work on MARR began in August last year. The new road will feature three bridges, five major junctions and 350 street lights.
