'Xylophone man' dies in hospital

One of Nottingham's best-known characters has died after 16 years of playing unusual music on the city streets.

Frank Robinson, better known as "the xylophone man", was often heard playing in the city centre, near the Broadmarsh shopping centre.

He died on Sunday at the Queen's Medical Centre.

Mr Robinson's favourite busking spot was outside Superdrug and the H and M clothes store.

In an interview last year, Mr Robinson said he was 72 years old.

Despite his penchant for a colourful children's xylophone - one of several he owned - Mr Robinson said his favourite musicians were Elvis, The Beatles and Van Morrison.

He said: "I can play a little bit on the guitar and a little on the piano, but not really.

"I don't pretend that I'm Mozart, I'm just having a bit of fun and keeping people entertained.

"I get to meet a lot of people as well, which is good."
