New chairman for regional agency

Dr Jackson has an OBE

The managing director of Toyota is to become the new boss of East Midlands Development Agency.

Dr Bryan Jackson has 36 years experience in the car industry, working at Ford before moving to Toyota in 1990 and winning an OBE for his work.

The appointment as chairman of EMDA was announced by Patricia Hewitt, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.

Dr Jackson takes over in December, replacing Derek Mapp.

Dr Jackson said: "My interest is driven by my lifelong desire to see the development of society for all.

"I have previously been active in the East Midlands and this position will enable me to again make a contribution."
