Flats 'inappropriate' for country
Brackenhurst College
Brackenhurst College is set in the countryside
Contentious plans to build 300 student flats at a rural college are due to be considered by councillors this week.

The proposal is for Brackenhurst College in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, which is run by Nottingham Trent University.

The college provides a range of vocational countryside-based education and training.

A report from the county council says the proposal is inappropriate because of its impact on the countryside.

Under the plans, an old building which currently houses 92 students would be removed.

The district's head of planning says it represents a reasonable expansion of the campus, provided the design is suitable.
