Nottingham City Council is to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the opening of the town hall.
The building was opened by the Prince of Wales - later to become King Edward VIII - in 1929.
People who attended that opening have been issued free invitations to the celebration.
The event will also be used to launch a new book on the history of the building, written by John Beckett and Ken Brand.
The council house overlooks Market Square and is perhaps best known for its 200-foot dome.
