Residents in a Nottinghamshire village are protesting at plans to have a 10,000 bird egg production unit built near their homes.
People living in Thurgarton near Southwell say the smell and noise from the free-range facility will make their lives a misery.
A Newark and Sherwood District Council report has dismissed their concerns and says it should not cause a problem.
Managers behind the scheme have declined to comment.
Gavin Brailsford, landlord of the Coach and Horses pub in the village, said: "Ten thousand birds is a large amount.
"You've got to think about the amount of waste that comes from 10,000 birds and the amount of flies attracted to that waste.
"Already there's a fly problem here because of the farmland.
"Obviously with the heat the flies enter into the premises where there's food and its very hard to stop them.
"Ten thousand birds is definitely going to increase the flies."
Local resident Bill Bowes said: "I feel we will be subjected to unreasonable smell and traffic generated by the farm.
"I really feel it is too close to existing residences in the area."
