The teenager died after a crash in Nottingham
A 16-year-old has died in Nottingham after the car he was travelling in crashed while being followed by police.

The red Vauxhall Nova was spotted on Berridge Road, in the Radford area, at 0008 BST on Saturday.

It collided with a tree at the junction of Western Boulevard and Nuthall Road and the front seat passenger sustained fatal injuries.

Two other males in the car, aged 15 and 16, were taken to hospital but are not in a life-threatening condition.

The two survivors were treated by a passing ambulance crew after the fire service cut all three from the car.

Mike Franklin, Independent Police Complaints Commission

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and any witnesses are urged to come forward.

IPCC commissioner Mike Franklin, who is managing the inquiry, said: "I send my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young man who died in this tragic incident.

"A thorough investigation will be carried out under our direction."

IPCC spokesman Richard Offer said both officers involved in the incident would remain on duty and would give statements to the inquiry.

"It was a short pursuit. It lasted a few minutes," he said.

"We will be taking statements from the officers but we are hoping that witnesses will come forward and tell us what speed they were doing."
