Northampton's Lift Tower is to have an observation deck

A landmark that dominates the skyline for miles around Northampton is to become a tourist attraction.

Plans have been drawn up for a visitor centre at the base of the town's famous Lift Tower to include a conference centre, reception area and cafe.

Visitors will be able to travel up the outside of the tower in a glass lift to an observation deck.

The tower's manager, Ed Wright, said: "We aim to make it similar to the Sky Tower in New Zealand."
