A police investigation into a toddler's death in a fire at his family home in Northamptonshire is to be reviewed.

Callum Bland, three, died when fire swept through his home in Fulmar Lane, Wellingborough, on 19 March 2007.

A murder inquiry was started by Northamptonshire Police but nobody was ever prosecuted for the crime.

On the anniversary of Callum's death police are to review the investigation amid concerns the person responsible is still at large.

Callum's mother Jayne, her partner and three other children escaped the fire.

The fire started when a wheelie bin next to an external door of the house was set alight.

In December 2008 an inquest into his death recorded an open verdict.

Northamptonshire Police said Supt Glyn Timmins, its director of investigations, had authorised an internal review by the Major Investigations Review Team, to be led by Det Ch Insp Ian Oliver.

Det Ch Insp Oliver said: "In recent months we have periodically received pieces of information in relation to Callum's death that have been subject to investigation.

"From the information that has come in, it is quite clear to me that there is still significant interest within the Wellingborough community about the tragic death of this little boy.

"I am appealing to anyone with information on their mind in relation to the identity of this person to come forward and tell us."

He said he was "convinced" there was someone still living on the Hemmingwell estate, or someone who lived there at the time and had recently moved away, who knew something.

Northamptonshire Police said much work had been done since Callum's death to tackle the problem of wheelie bin fires in Wellingborough.

Intensive police activity, and awareness building together with partners, has also led to a significant reduction in arsons on the Hemmingwell estate, a spokeswoman said.
