Ambulance in six-vehicle pile-up

An ambulance was involved in a six-vehicle pile up while responding to an emergency callout in Northampton.

The crash happened on St Matthews Parade at the junction of Shelley Street on Wednesday.

The ambulance, using blue lights and sirens, collided with a vehicle before they both collided with four cars.

One woman was taken to Northampton General Hospital with minor injuries and the road was closed for nearly two hours so the vehicles could be removed.

An investigation into the incident is under way and witnesses were asked to contact Northamptonshire Police.
