Stolen laptop photos recovered

Police have managed to recover photographs and music wiped from a stolen laptop which belonged to a girl killed in a road accident last month.

Sophie Bywaters, 13, of East Hunsbury, Northampton, died on 13 October.

The laptop was taken in a burglary later in the month and found a few days later, but the data had been wiped.

An officer with Northamptonshire Police's High-Tech Crime Unit has managed to restore the items that had been deleted.

A man aged 24 and a 15-year-old boy, both from Northampton, have been arrested and bailed in connection with the burglary.

A police spokesman said: "The theft of the laptop caused extreme distress to Sophie's family and this was in no way alleviated when the laptop was recovered, only to discover it had been wiped.

"An officer worked over the weekend in a dedicated attempt to retrieve the items that are so precious to Sophie's family and we are really pleased to say that this was successful."
