A new chief constable has been appointed for Northamptonshire Police.

Adrian Lee joins Northamptonshire from Staffordshire Police where he is currently temporary chief constable.

Deirdre Newham, chairwoman of Northamptonshire Police Authority, praised Mr Lee as an officer of extremely high calibre.

"The authority's appointments panel was fortunate to have three such strong candidates from which to select, making the decision difficult," she said.

She added: "However, the panel was particularly impressed with Mr Lee's commitment to delivering the best possible policing service to the communities in Northamptonshire and his passion for policing."

'Best policing'

Mr Lee said: "I look forward to taking the force on the next stage of its journey to provide the very best policing services and building trust and confidence in the police among the communities of the county," he said.

Mrs Newham said Davina Logan will continue as temporary Chief Constable until Mr Lee joins the Force.

Mr Lee joined Greater Manchester Police as a graduate entrant in 1985 and was later commander for South Manchester Division.

He is a graduate of the Gregorian University in Rome, and Manchester University.
