Police halt inquiry into attack

Police have ended an investigation into an assault on a woman at a beauty spot in Northamptonshire after inquiries showed the incident did not happen.

Officers were called to Stanwick Lakes in the Nene Valley in the early hours of Monday to reports of an assault.

The A45 was closed between Stanwick and Chowns Mill roundabout, in Higham Ferrers, while the scene was examined.

A police spokesman said: "Following interviews with the victim it became apparent no offence took place."
