Family clear of swine flu illness

A businessman and his family who were quarantined in their home after returning from Mexico with flu-like symptoms have been given the all-clear.

On Saturday Chris Clarke, of Stanwick, Northamptonshire, felt unwell and contacted his doctor.

He and his family were issued with anti-viral drugs.

He has now been told tests showed he had not caught the new swine flu virus, believed to have killed a number of people in Mexico.

'Pretty impressed'

Mr Clarke told BBC News he had been called by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) who told him tests for the H1N1 virus were clear.

He said: "I was reasonably relaxed and felt statistically the chance of having picked up anything in Mexico was relatively low.

"But of course I have two young children and it's concerning to think you might have brought something untoward back in to the household."

He said he had been "pretty impressed" by the HPA's response.

At least 100 people in Mexico are now suspected to have died as result of catching the new swine flu virus.
