Heavy snow has turned to ice in places in Northamptonshire

More than 40 schools were closed as continuing bad weather raised concerns about safety of students, and a winter storm could now hit Northamptonshire.

Schools will inform parents about closures on the county council website and local radio if the storm predicted for the south reaches Northamptonshire.

The Met Office has warned of heavy and drifting snow for the county on Monday night and into Tuesday.

Northamptonshire Police warn drivers to avoid journeys in bad weather.
