Emergency services have renewed calls for drivers to exercise caution as snow returns to Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire Police said the Met Office issued new weather advice as snow fell in Northampton and Daventry.

While the snow was not expected to settle, police warned of icy conditions on the roads on Monday morning.

A police spokeswoman said "heavy and drifting snow" was expected to hit the county on Monday afternoon. Motorists were warned to expect disruption.

She said the Met Office said there was a 60% risk of heavy snow on Monday.

"Our message is be prepared for possible disruption and make your plans accordingly," she added.

Earlier, a multi-agency group charged with keeping Northamptonshire's roads safe in severe weather met to plan for more icy conditions in the county.

Drivers who were forced to abandon their cars in the extreme weather on Saturday or earlier in the week were being encouraged to collect them.

People were also urged to check on elderly neighbours to ensure they had everything they needed.
