M1 re-opens following car blaze

A stretch of the M1 in Northamptonshire has re-opened after it was closed in both directions because of a car fire.

The lanes were closed at the request of the fire service after a blaze in a 4x4 car, fuelled by Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), in the southbound carriageway.

The northbound carriageway was closed along with two lanes of the southbound, between junctions 16 and 17, but have since been re-opened.

Police warned there will continue to be delays as backed-up traffic clears.
