A 45-year-old woman has gone missing in Northamptonshire and her family and police say they are concerned for her welfare during the cold snap.

Gillian Claire Merrick was last seen at her home in Oundle late on Thursday.

Residents in the area are asked to check buildings or sheds to see if she may have taken refuge from the cold.

Ramblers are also asked to keep a look out for her in the countryside. She is believed to be wearing a beige coloured jacket, red scarf and gloves.

She is about 5ft 6ins tall, of slim build, of fair complexion, with collar length brown, straight hair.

"It is out of character for Gillian not to have made contact with friends of family and because of this officers are concerned for her welfare," a Northamptonshire Police spokesman said.
