More arrests over serious assault

Two more teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 65-year-old suffered serious injuries during an assault in Northamptonshire.

The victim, who was attacked in Higham Ferrers, is in a critical but stable condition at a hospital in Oxford after surgery for injuries to his skull.

On Friday, a 17-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 40 were arrested at a property in Higham Ferrers.

Now two boys, aged 16 and 17, have been arrested over Thursday's incident.

Police said the 40-year-old had now been released on police bail, but the 19 and 17-year-old were still in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 65-year-old man was assaulted after an argument over possible damage to his car on Thursday night.

Police said officers had a very good response from the public to appeals for witnesses.

A police spokeswoman said: "Extra police carried out high visibility patrols in Higham Ferrers on Friday night, and these are continuing, to offer reassurance to local people concerned about what has happened."
