Police believe a man who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in Wellingborough in Northamptonshire could come from outside the town.
The attack happened at 1800 GMT on 28 August in John Lea Park, Doddington Road, said Northamptonshire Police.
Det Con Alan Fisermanis, leading the inquiry, said: "This was a horrible, one-off incident and we have acted to make sure this remains as such."
He said covert techniques suggested the man may not be from Wellingborough.
The offender was described as a white man, with short, spiky black hair and a greying goatee beard.
'Visiting town'
Police said the man had yellowing teeth and was slim and short.
He was smart and wore a long-sleeved light blue top and black trousers and was carrying a black folder.
He was aged between his mid-20s and mid 40s.
Det Con Alan Fisermanis said: "We have employed a number of covert tactics to help identify this man and we now believe he could be from outside the Wellingborough area and was possibly visiting the town on the day of this assault.
"After seeking permission from the victim's family we are now looking to broaden our search for this man outside the Wellingborough area and I would urge anyone who may recognise his description to contact us immediately."
