Event focuses on art of preaching

Christians and Muslims are gathering in Northampton to take part in an event to promote better understanding between the faiths.

Members of both faiths will discuss how to be good preachers at a two-day event organised by the Christian Muslim Forum and the College of Preachers.

Those attending will listen to each other's sermons and hold debates on issues relevant to both faiths.

The event has been described as a "pioneering workshop".

Dr Musharraf Hussain, chairman of the Christian Muslim Forum, said it reflected "the growing need to bring our major faiths together with the aim of learning from each other".

Paul Johns, director of the College of Preachers, said: "Preaching is part of public worship but we will not be heard unless we address issues that concern the public in our preaching in an honest and balanced way.

"How best to do this is what I am looking forward to exploring with our Muslim friends."
