An operation against knife crime in a Northamptonshire pub has been hailed a success after no weapons were found.

People entering the Gloucester pub in Wellingborough on Friday night had to pass through a security arch.

Inspector Pete Chisholm said: "No one was found to be carrying a knife or bladed weapon during the operation."

A drugs dog was also used in the operation and helped police find four people in possession of Class A drugs and one in possession of cannabis.

All those found with drugs were given cautions.

Insp Chisholm said: "I am pleased that no one was found to be carrying a knife or bladed weapon during the operation - it reinforces the message that Wellingborough is a safe place in which to live, work and socialise.

"Hundreds of people went through the arch and we had a positive response from them. Not one person questioned the presence of the arch."
