Residents get smart to beat crime

SmartWater on hands
SmartWater shows up under ultra-violet light

Residents in parts of Wellingborough are the latest in Northamptonshire to be given the chance to have their homes protected by SmartWater.

State-of-the-art kits will be given to homes in Abbey Road, Priory Road and Jubilee Crescent, on Croyland estate.

SmartWater has a unique DNA code and is invisible to the naked eye but fluorescent under ultra-violet light.

More than 2,000 homes across the county have already taken advantage of the kits in a bid to beat the burglars.

From Monday each home will be given a free SmartWater property marking pack that also contains stickers for residents to display at their front and rear doors.

People who are arrested and taken into custody are routinely checked for SmartWater which stays on skin and clothing for a long time.

Any property recovered by police and believed to be stolen will also be checked.
