Community groups offered grants

Community and voluntary groups in Northamptonshire are being offered a slice of grant aid worth £750,000.

The grants of up to £20,000 will be awarded by the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation's (WNDC) new Stronger Communities Fund.

The money will go groups in areas affected by the growth of Northampton, Daventry and Towcester.

Roger Mendonca, of the WNDC, said "a little money can change lives in a big way".

Interim chief executive Mr Mendonca said: "WNDC is now able to support those groups and societies, in particular those focused on sport or culture.

"Nevertheless, applications from other organisations which may be helping the elderly or disabled, or those supporting disadvantaged or young people will be most welcome."
