Funding offer to community groups

A Northamptonshire council is making thousands of pounds available in grants to voluntary and community groups in need of additional funds.

Organisations are being urged to get bids in quickly as Daventry District Council's deadline is 31 October.

Funds are available for major or minor revenue, capital and new initiatives up to and over £2,500.

About £30,000 is available for one-off revenue funding, with £60,000 for capital projects.

A council spokesperson said: "These discretionary grants are open to voluntary and community groups.

"But they exclude individuals, private businesses, statutory bodies, religious bodies where the monies will be used for religious purposes or religious buildings, political parties, unspecified projects and local authority activities.

"All applicants will need to explain how their project or service would address or assist in one of four main areas.

"These are social inclusion, community cohesion, measures to reduce crime and disorder, and how to improve access and equality for people."
